The Uttarakhand government has cancelled Class X board exams and rescheduled them for Class XII.

The Uttarakhand Board of School Education (UBSE) has agreed to cancel board exams for Class X students and defer them for Class XII students, following in the footsteps of the CBSE.

Arvind Pandey, the state's education minister, announced the news in a tweet on Sunday. Pandey said that the decision was reached after extensive discussions with officials from the education department and approval from Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat.

“We have agreed to postpone Class XII board exams due to an increase in Covid-19 cases across the region. Furthermore, the Class X board exams have been cancelled entirely. Such Class X students who are unhappy with their final results will be able to retake their exams with Class XII board students on a newly announced date,” Pandey said. The UBSE will issue an official order in this regard on Monday. The UBSE board exams were already scheduled to take place from May 4 to May 22, 2021. For the board exams, more than 2.7 lakh students had enrolled.
